Women’s Refuges
Women’s refuges, or shelters, provide emergency accommodation and practical support for women and children who need to escape violent situations.
Most refuges are located at confidential addresses to keep them safe. They can provide emotional and practical support and information to enable you to make informed decisions about what you want to do. For example, workers can assist with applying for Protection Orders, help access Centrelink payments, assist with finding housing.
Women’s refuge workers believe that women should be able to live their lives free of violence.
While some refuges are unable to accommodate pets. The Pets in Crisis program run by the RSPCA provides emergency accommodation and care for pets whose families are escaping domestic/family violence. Referral to Pets in Crisis can be made through DV Connect.
